While the ministry is reluctant to confirm reports linking Chinese hackers to cyberattacks by SkyNews, official sources indicate that the breaches include names, banking details, and, in some cases of current and retired military personnel -Soldiers have addresses and state insurance rates, including reserves.
While there was no immediate evidence of data theft or alteration, the investigation is ongoing. The measures are expected to include the introduction of credit monitoring services that will allow individuals to detect unauthorized use of their banking data.

Grant Shapps is scheduled to update MPs on the situation and explain the Ministry of Defence’s response efforts. They may have colluded with the hackers and re-entered the system over a longer period of time, perhaps weeks. While the attack isn’t always expected to be publicized in China, it brings signs of hacker involvement.
Chinese actors previously breached the Electoral Commission in March 2021. Agents later blamed China for the attacks, which included unauthorized access to voter registration cards and hacking of email control systems
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described China’s actions as becoming increasingly austerity globally and said it posed a serious state-based threat to economic security. The government also unveiled its efforts to target critics of Beijing.
